DearMaps is built on the principle that your memories belong to you. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we protect it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Data You Create

• Memories (text, photos, videos, audio notes) you create in DearMaps
• Location data you associate with memories
• Profile information (display name, profile photo) if you create an account

Data Collected Automatically

• Basic device information (device model, OS version) for crash reporting via Firebase Crashlytics
• Purchase and subscription status via RevenueCat (no payment details are stored by us)
• We do not collect: browsing habits, advertising identifiers, contact lists, precise real-time location, or any behavioral analytics

How Your Data Is Protected

End-to-End Encryption

• All private memories are encrypted on your device before being stored or synced
• Encryption keys are derived from your device and never leave it
• We cannot read, access, or decrypt your private memories — this is our zero-knowledge architecture

On-Device Processing

• Magic Scan (AI photo analysis) runs entirely on your device using Apple's CoreML and Vision frameworks
• No photos or media are ever sent to external servers for analysis
• AI processing results stay on your device

iCloud Sync

• Private data syncs via Apple's iCloud (CloudKit Private Database)
• This means your encrypted data is stored in your iCloud account, not on our servers
• Apple's iCloud is protected by Apple's own encryption and privacy policies

Social Features

• If you choose to share a memory to the public feed, a copy of that memory is uploaded to our servers (Supabase)
• Published content is stripped of sensitive metadata (EXIF data removed) before upload
• Publishing is always an explicit, voluntary action — nothing is ever shared automatically
• You can unpublish shared content at any time

Third-Party Services

• Supabase: Authentication (Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In) and social features. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
• Apple (iCloud/CloudKit): Private data sync. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.
• RevenueCat: Subscription management. Processes purchase receipts, does not have access to your content. Subject to RevenueCat's privacy policy.
• Firebase Crashlytics: Crash reporting only. Collects device model, OS version, and crash logs. No user content is included. Subject to Google's privacy policy.

Data Retention and Deletion

• Your private data is stored in your iCloud account and on your device. We do not have a separate copy.
• Published (social) content is stored on our servers until you unpublish or delete your account.
• You can delete your account at any time from the app settings. This permanently removes all data associated with your account from our servers.
• We do not retain deleted data. When it's gone, it's gone.

Children's Privacy

DearMaps is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your Rights

• Access: You can export your data at any time from the app.
• Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data.
• Portability: Your private data lives in your iCloud account and on your device.
• Correction: You can edit or delete any memory at any time.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision.
